Overview

A member of staff who conducts events can use their smartphone or tablet as a Bluetooth beacon for students to check in. Administrative configuration is required before using this feature.

Downloading and Logging In

Download SEAtS Mobile from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). Log in using your institutional credentials. Allow notifications. The app will open directly to your calendar with today's events listed.

Enabling Your Device as a Beacon

When an event's start time has been reached, the beacon option becomes available. Tap the beacon button for the event to activate your phone as a beacon. Allow Bluetooth if prompted on first use. You can leave the Beacon Active modal open or close it while still broadcasting in the background. To deactivate, tap the button again and switch off.

📝 Note: The event only becomes available for student check-in at the scheduled start time of the lecture.

FAQ

Q: Can I use my device as a beacon for any event (e.g. a meeting with a student)? A: No — device beacons only work where the device has been associated to a location/room and the lecturer is scheduled to conduct an event in that location.

Q: I cannot see any events in my calendar. A: Check you are viewing today's schedule. Try a pull-down refresh. Events from your timetable system may not have synced yet. An administrator can edit the event to add the correct lecturer.

Q: I am experiencing issues with the app — who do I contact? A: Contact your local systems administrator for first-line support. Keep your device OS updated and Bluetooth/Location permissions enabled.
