Overview
GPS Ringfencing (Geofencing) allows an institution to define a physical boundary within which students can use GPS check-in. Students outside the boundary will be prevented from checking in via GPS.
Permissions
Two permissions are required in the Admin site under Users > Access Profiles > Main Site: Physical Resources (provides access to the Settings > Physical Resources section) and Geofencing (controls the ability to set the geofence boundary).
Setting Up a Geofence
In the main SEAtS application, click your name/avatar to open the options menu, then select Settings. Select Physical Resources to open the resources page. Navigate to Site, Building, or Room level as appropriate. Select the resource to open the edit modal. Activate the GPS zone field. Search for the location by postal/zip code or address, or click on the map to pin the exact location. Adjust the radius in metres (default 100m, minimum 1m). The map will zoom to reflect the boundary. Click Save.
Once geofencing is set, the radius value will appear in the location list.
Student Experience
The student check-in process is the same, but if the student's GPS position is outside the set radius, the app will display a warning that they are not permitted to check in.
