In addition to tagging students through the SEAtS user interface, tagging can be carried out via file import. This is especially useful when needing to tag a high volume of students.

The import process can be used when adding students to new Tags or existing Tags. If the Tag does not currently exist within Tag Management or if there is not an exact match, the system will create the Tag on import using default colours and will not set any user permissions.

To import Tags, the Student Tags Data File will need to be used. Refer to the Data Interface Master Specification File for full field definitions.

Tag Imports Configuration Settings

Two back-end configurations exist for Tag Import: ClearPrevious and KeepCurrentFileOnly.

These configurations control the behaviour of tag imports — for example, whether previously applied tags are removed when a new import is processed, or whether only tags present in the current file are kept.

Contact the SEAtS Helpdesk to check or change the import configuration settings that apply to your institution's instance of SEAtS.

Importing the Tags Data File

Instructions on importing data files can be found in Importing data manually through the Importer Tool.
