This guide outlines how to set the SEAtS application to load for an academic with their events listed for the day, without them having to configure this themselves. The aim is to provide academics with a seamless experience and facilitate a focus on delivering teaching.
Access Profile Setup
In the administration site, navigate to Users and Access Profiles. Select the Lecturer access profile and change the default landing page to 'Lectures'. This means that when any user in the group logs in, they will see the Lecture Index page by default.
The same approach can be applied for other groups — for example, users who deliver teaching but whose primary role is managing student cases might benefit from 'Cases' as their landing page.
Click Save to save any changes made for each profile. If a user decides to change their default landing page within their own preferences, this will override what has been set at access profile level.
Custom View — Configure Public
An access profile aligned to an administrative role may have the permission to configure public views. This same permission allows the user to overwrite SEAtS Standard views across the application.
Lecture Index — Filter Builder
In the main application, open the Lectures filter builder and set the Lecturer field to 'current user'. Set the date range to equal 'today' (the current default). Apply any changes made.
Lecture Index — Filter Configuration
The filter settings allow items within the filter builder to be re-ordered or promoted to the header bar. Items commonly used by academics can be promoted to the header bar for ease of use.
Lecture Index — Sort By
The default list sort for the lecture index page is by date — oldest to newest. If your organisation wants the daily view sorted by start time, this can be configured.
Lecture Index — Column Configuration
Determine what data a lecturer should view by adjusting the column configuration. Items such as QR code should be included if your organisation uses this method of attendance capture. Status is one such item recommended for inclusion — it provides a visual indication of events that are open for check-in, scheduled, or concluded.
Lecture Index — Standard View Update
With any changes made to the filters, filter settings, and column configuration, click Save and name the view (e.g. 'Standard View'). Tick all options — column, filter settings and date range — to save a complete configuration.
Lecture Index — Non-Lecturer Access
Users who don't deliver teaching will not be linked to a lecturer profile and will not see events when accessing the lecture index page. To counteract this, create a separate public view for all other users, or advise them to create their own private view.
